Best Luxury Hotels in Champagne, France

Where you stay in Champagne can make or break your Champagne experience. From a Belle Époque château in the heart of Reims to a 10-room guesthouse perched above the Côte des Blancs vineyards, the options in Champagne are pretty incredible. This guide covers the best luxury hotels across the entire region – in Reims, near Épernay, and out in the villages where the vines surround you on every side.

Best Luxury Hotels in Reims

Reims is the natural base for a Champagne trip – easy to reach by train from Paris in 45 minutes, walkable, and home to some of the most famous Champagne houses in the world. Staying in Reims means you can do your cellar visits on foot, explore the cathedral at your own pace, and be back at your hotel in time for a long dinner. These are the two luxury hotels I would point you towards.

Don’t miss…

Domaine les Crayeres

Domaine les Crayères is a Belle Époque château built in 1904, set within a private park of century-old trees on the edge of Reims, within walking distance of Ruinart, Pommery, and several of the city’s most famous Champagne houses. The 20 rooms and suites are each named after European empresses and princesses and decorated in 19th-century classical French style – heavy drapes, patterned fabrics, antique furnishings, and large windows overlooking the gardens. The two-Michelin-starred restaurant Le Parc under chef Christophe Moret is one of the great dining experiences in northern France, and the more relaxed Le Jardin brasserie is a beautiful alternative for a lighter evening. If you are going to splurge anywhere in Champagne, this is the address.

La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa

La Caserne Chanzy is one of the best located hotel in Reims directly opposite the cathedral, with views of the Gothic façade from some of the rooms. The hotel is a converted 19th-century former barracks that has been transformed into a sleek, sophisticated boutique hotel with a full spa including an indoor pool, hammam, and sauna. La Grande Georgette restaurant on site serves traditional French cuisine and the Champagne bar in the lobby is exactly where you want to be after a day of tasting.

Best Luxury Hotels Near Epernay

Épernay is the capital of Champagne, home to the Avenue de Champagne and some of the most famous Champagne houses in the world. Staying near Épernay puts you in the heart of wine country, surrounded by vineyards rather than a city, and within easy reach of the grand houses and smaller village producers alike. These are the two hotels I would recommend.

La Villa Eugene

If you want to stay in Épernay itself (within walking distance of the Avenue de Champagne), La Villa Eugène is the right choice. A beautiful 19th-century residence with rooms and suites decorated in Louis XVI style, featuring fireplaces and old-world elegance that fits right in in the Champagne region. The outdoor heated swimming pool and sun terrace are a highlight, and the bar overlooking the garden is the place to be on a warm evening. It’s intimate, charming, and very well located.

Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa

Perched above the rolling vineyards of Champillon with panoramic views over the entire Marne Valley, the Royal Champagne is one of the most spectacular hotel settings in all of France. The former coaching inn has been transformed into a sleek, contemporary 5-star retreat with 47 rooms and suites, all with terraces and vineyard views, a spa with indoor and outdoor pools, and two restaurants including the Michelin-starred Le Royal. About 20 minutes from Reims and 15 minutes from the Avenue de Champagne the hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring the entire region. The hotel welcomes guests with Champagne on arrival, offers electric bikes to borrow for vineyard rides, and arranges cellar visits throughout the region. One of the great luxury hotel experiences in Champagne.

Best Luxury Hotels in the Champagne Villages

If Reims and Épernay give you the urban and grand side of Champagne, the villages give you something completely different – vineyards outside your window, silence, and the feeling of being truly immersed in the region. This is the hotel I would recommend for those who want that experience.

Chateau de Sacy

Built in 1850 and lovingly restored from near ruin, Château de Sacy sits on the Montagne de Reims surrounded by vineyards on every side just 20 minutes from Reims but feeling completely removed from the city. The 12 rooms and suites are each individually designed and named after historical figures – Marie Antoinette, Napoléon III, the Sun King – with antique furnishings, marble bathrooms, and draped beds that give each room its own distinct personality. The restaurant has a 360° view over the vines and serves refined local and seasonal cuisine. It’s intimate, romantic, and full of character – exactly what a luxury Champagne village hotel should be.

How to Choose Where to Stay in Champagne

The right hotel in Champagne depends entirely on what kind of trip you are planning. Here’s how I like to think about it…

If you’re visiting Champagne for the first time and want to be based in a city with easy access to restaurants, Champagne houses, and the train back to Paris, stay in Reims. Domaine Les Crayères is the ultimate splurge and La Caserne Chanzy is the smart, well-located alternative. Both put you within walking distance of the best the city has to offer.

If you want to wake up surrounded by vineyards and spend your days driving the scenic routes between producers, stay outside the city. Royal Champagne gives you the most spectacular views in the region and the most complete luxury hotel experience. Château de Sacy gives you something more intimate and personal. Both are within easy reach of Reims and Épernay. If you choose this option, check out my guide to renting a car in France – you’ll need one to get around.

Champagne is a region that rewards those who slow down and trust me when I tell you, the right hotel makes all the difference. Whether you spend your evenings in a two-Michelin-starred dining room overlooking a private park in Reims, on a terrace watching the sun set over the Marne Valley, or in a private cellar tasting with one of the great winemakers of the region, the hotels on this list give you the best possible base for experiencing everything Champagne has to offer.
