Best Luxury Hotels in Burgundy, France – Where to Stay in the Heart of Wine Country

Burgundy is an incredible destination, and if anything can make your experience even better, it’s staying in one of the luxury hotels the region offers. Picture this… you check in to your hotel, you run to the window and see the vineyards stretched out in front of you; you smell the food from the Michelin-starred restaurant down the corridor, and you sit amongst the vines when you sit for your glass of wine each night. Not only have I visited (and stayed) in Burgundy twice, but both times I left completely impressed which was largely due to the incredible hotels I stayed in. Whether you are looking for a classic 5-star stay in the heart of Beaune, a vineyard immersion in a Premier Cru estate, or a Dijon base for exploring the whole region… Burgundy has something extraordinary for every kind of traveler.

Why Where you Stay in Burgundy Matters

In my opinion, where you choose to stay in Burgundy makes an enormous difference in how your whole trip feels. Stay in the heart of Beaune and you can walk to dinner after a long day of tasting, wander the medieval streets in the morning before anyone else is up, and have the wine capital of France entirely at your feet. Stay in the vineyards and you wake up to a view of some of the most celebrated plots of land in the world, with the Route des Grands Crus literally outside your door. Stay in Dijon and you have a proper French city as your base – culture, markets, and transport links to the whole region.

Another thing to consider is that the hotels in Burgundy have a way of becoming part of the experience rather than just a place to sleep. Here specifically, hotels have benefits like wine cellars, Michelin-starred restaurants, spa treatments designed around local vine extracts, and their own winemakers you can meet through the hotel’s estate.

Depending on where you choose to stay, you might need to rent a car – read my Burgundy car rental guide here.

Best Luxury Hotels in Beaune

If you want to be central – within walking distance of the Hôtel-Dieu, the Cité des Climats, the best restaurants, and surrounded by wineries, you’ll want to stay in Beaune. Here are the hotels in Beaune I recommend…

Hostellerie Cèdre & Spa

Hostellerie Cèdre is a beautiful hotel (and my favorite stay in Beaune) that is set behind an elegant façade topped by a centuries-old cedar tree, just steps from the ancient ramparts and a five-minute walk from the Hôtel-Dieu. The 40 rooms and suites are intimate and carefully designed… but the best part is the on-site restaurant – Le Clos du Cèdre – which holds a coveted Michelin star. It’s a beautiful luxury hotel experience right in the heart of Beaune.

l’hôtel de beaune

L’Hôtel de Beaune is another 5-star hotel in the heart of Beaune, housed in a former 17th-century wine merchant’s residence. The hotel has 17 rooms and suites, each individually designed. But most importantly, the wine cellar is pretty impressive with over 15,000 bottles with 90% local Burgundy labels to choose from. The Bistro de l’Hôtel on site is one of the best restaurants in Beaune and everything in the old town is walkable from here.

Best Luxury Hotels in the Countryside Near the Vineyards

If waking up in the countryside surrounded by vines is what you’re most excited about, these hotels either offer vineyard views or are close enough to the vineyards you can walk.

château de la commaraine – pommard

Château de La Commaraine is a gorgeous, 12th-century estate in the heart of Pommard. Here, there are 37 rooms and suites designed with original stone walls, historic timber framing, and a clean aesthetic that feels in line with the landscape. The hotel sits at the center of its own 9-acre Premier Cru Clos Monopole vineyard. There are two restaurants, a spa, an outdoor pool overlooking the vines, and a working cuverie integrated directly into the hotel. The hotel is located just 4 kilometers from Beaune and it’s one of the most talked-about addresses in the region.

hostellerie de levernois – levernois

Hostellerie de Levernois is a Relais & Châteaux property set in a 7-hectare park on the banks of the River Bouzaise, just 5 kilometers from Beaune. Not only does the hotel feel like a sancutary, but this 18th-century villa has 39 rooms spread across several buildings, which makes it feel incredibly private too. The Michelin-starred Table de Levernois serves traditional Burgundian flavors with a passionate seasonal focus, while the Bistrot du Bord de l’Eau offers a more casual alternative built around produce from the hotel’s own kitchen garden. The hotel also boasts a Sisley Spa, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and cycling routes through the vineyards.

les sources de vougeot – vougeot

Opened in March 2026 within the historic Château de Gilly (a former residence of the Abbots of Cîteaux dating back to the 14th century), Les Sources de Vougeot is the most significant new hotel opening in northern Burgundy in years. With 49 rooms, terracotta floors, original woodwork, and locally sourced antiques, this luxury hotel sits just steps from the legendary Clos de Vougeot vineyard in the heart of the Côte de Nuits – making it an impressive stay. Of course, the on-site restaurant has a menu built around the seasonal foods of Burgundy, and the Caudalie spa brings the same vine-extract treatments that made Les Sources de Caudalie in Bordeaux famous. For those basing themselves in the northern part of the region, closer to Nuits-Saint-Georges and the great Côte de Nuits producers… this is the perfect place to stay.

COMO le montrachet – puligny-montrachet

COMO Le Montrachet is a 19th-century village inn in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet – one of the most celebrated wine villages in the world. There are 28 rooms and suites which all have warm, elegant interiors overlooking the village square or the garden. The hotel is just steps from Olivier Leflaive (one of the most renowned wine-makers in the world) and surrounded by some of the most valuable vineyard land on earth. For those who want to be as close to the source of Burgundy’s greatest white wines as a hotel can put you, this is where you want to stay.

Best Luxury Hotels in Dijon

Dijon is the capital of Burgundy and in my opinion, an underrated base for exploring the region. It has excellent transport links by TGV from Paris (1.5 hours) and sits at the northern end of the Route des Grands Crus, making it a natural starting point for anyone driving south through the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The city itself is worth a day or two and here’s where I’d recommend staying.

grand hôtel la cloche dijon

The grande dame of Dijon hotels, the Grand Hôtel la Cloche Dijon is a storied 5-star property steps from the Ducal Palace that has been welcoming guests since 1424. The building is magnificent, the rooms are elegant and spacious, and the location in the heart of the old city puts you within easy walking distance of everything worth seeing in Dijon. For those who want a classic, prestigious hotel experience in a city that has been at the center of French history for centuries, this is where I’d send you.

How to Choose Where to Stay in Burgundy

The right hotel in Burgundy depends entirely on what kind of trip you are planning. Here is how to think about it…if you want to be central and walkable, within easy reach of the best restaurants and wine shops… stay in Beaune.

If waking up in the vineyards is the goal, the Côte de Beaune properties are the ones to consider. Château de la Commaraine is the most immersive as you’re literally sleeping inside a working Premier Cru estate. Hostellerie de Levernois is the most elegant countryside retreat. And Les Sources de Vougeot is the choice for those who want to base themselves in the Côte de Nuits and explore the northern grands crus.

And if Dijon is your entry point or you want a city base with easy access to the whole region, Grand Hotel La Cloche is the only hotel I’d recommend.

Whatever you choose, booking early is essential – particularly between May and October when the region is at its busiest. And if you want help choosing the right property for your specific trip or accessing hotel perks like room upgrades, early check-in, and hotel credits, reach out to me on Instagram… as a licensed travel advisor I can often get you access to benefits you would not get booking directly.

Burgundy is impressive in every sense. The landscape, the food, the wine, the culture, and the local people are what make this region truly special. The hotels on this list are the ones I would recommend without hesitation, and I truly hope that by reading this, you’re considering a trip to France’s Burgundy region.
